Where does mother come from?
This use of mother originates from ballroom culture, an LGBTQ+ subculture in which drag performers compete in contests known as Balls and are judged on their costuming, hair, dance, personality, and other qualities and skills. Mother, in this context, refers to a head/leader of a “house,” the chosen family units that participate in and organize the Balls. These maternal figures protect queer “kids” in their house and mentor them for competitions.

Mother is also used a verb, for the actions of such a strong, nurturing person.
