What does taps sign mean?
Taps sign is used as an interjection, especially on social media, to call attention to something, and especially something the user feels others need reminding of. It is often used when quoting another post, either by the user or someone else, or accompanied by an image that serves as the notice or reminder.

Where does taps sign come from?
From a 1998 episode of The Simpsons titled “Lost Our Lisa,” I which Lisa Simpson inadvertently boards the wrong city bus. When she says hello to the driver, Larry, he points to a sign above the windshield that reads “DO NOT TALK TO DRIVER.” When she attempts to apologize for speaking to him (because talking to the bus driver is allowed on her school bus) he taps the sign repeatedly with his finger. When she realizes later that she’s on the wrong bus and asks Larry where she is, he says, “Don’t make me tap the sign.”
How is taps sign used?
The full phrase “don’t make me tap the sign” is also used as a somewhat humorous warning, such as to not keep discussing something in a way that violates a previously established point, rule, etc.

… I’d imagine the average Londoner would prefer an above-inflation pay rise. Unfortunately— and but for Brexit and a pandemic this should be the headline every day of the week for a decade —real-terms weekly pay is lower today than before the 2008 financial crisis, and is set to fall. Don’t make me tap the sign.
